Coburn treated for prostate cancer

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) is receiving medical care after receiving his fourth cancer diagnosis.

The Oklahoma Republican missed a procedural vote on a gay-rights bill Monday night in the Senate.

{mosads}His spokesman confirmed that Coburn was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, his second bout with the disease, and will miss work this week.

Coburn, 65, underwent surgery for early-stage prostate cancer two years ago. He also suffered from malignant melanoma in 1975 and colon cancer in the early 2000s.

Coburn is not the only senator recently absent for medical reasons. His Oklahoma colleague, Republican Sen. James Inhofe, underwent an emergency quadruple bypass surgery last month and missed several weeks of work.
