White House photographer in front row at World Series

White House photographer Pete Souza had a front-row seat for Wednesday’s World Series tilt between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals.

Souza was shown repeatedly during the broadcast of the game snapping pictures from behind the Boston on-deck circle. The White House photographer is Massachusetts native.

It’s unclear whether Souza traveled to Boston with the president earlier in the day for Obama’s remarks on healthcare.

During those remarks, Obama noted that he was “well aware that a presidential visit is not the biggest thing going on today in Boston.”

He also joked that he tried to grow a beard — as most Red Sox players have — but that first lady Michelle Obama nixed the idea.

According to White House spokesman Josh Earnest, the president did not consider attending the game.

“As you know, the president is regularly mindful of the impact that his presence can have on the ability of other people to go about their lives, and in this case, to enjoy a World Series game,” Earnest said.

But Earnest said he’d “bet good money on the fact that he’s going to watch the game on TV tonight” — perhaps with press secretary Jay Carney, an avid Red Sox fan.
