Biden heading to Mexico to talk trade, economic ties

Officials could discuss the U.S. spying although President Obama addressed it during the Group of 20 meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, recently. 

As part of the new dialogue, officials from both nations will meet annually at the Cabinet level. 

{mosads}Biden will be accompanied by other administration officials from the Transportation, Commerce and State departments along with the U.S. Trade Representative, which reflect the importance of the meetings, officials said. 

The officials said that although the visit is brief, “connections run deep” between the two nations. 

The economic relationship between the U.S. and Mexico has grown substantially in the past two decades and these talks come at a time when both nations are further assessing their roles in the global economy, the future of their partnership amid trade talks on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). 

Two-way trade has quadrupled in recent years to $500 billion and Mexico is the second largest export market and third largest trading partner of the United States. 

“There are number of steps both countries need to take to realize the full potential of our partnership,” the officials said. 

Obama traveled to Mexico and Costa Rica in May. 

A stop in Panama for Biden was postponed because of the conflict in Syria. The trip is expected to be rescheduled soon.
