Boehner says Obama administration should hold Iran’s ‘feet to the fire’

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Wednesday called the alleged Iranian terror plot “a serious breach of international behavior” and said the Obama administration should hold the rogue government’s “feet to the fire.”
 
“I think that the terror plot first shows all of us that the threat that we face has not gone away,” Boehner said in his first comments since the Justice Department brought charges against Iranian officials for an alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States. “It also shows us that all of the investment that we’ve made and the efforts of the intelligence agencies and the counterintelligence agencies over the last 10 years has been paying big dividends and continues to pay big dividends.
 
{mosads}“It’s a very serious breach of international behavior, and I would hope that our administration would hold the Iranian government — hold their feet to the fire over the actions that have been alleged in this complaint.”
 
The Speaker would not specify how he believed the Obama administration should respond.
 
“I don’t think I need to be specific in terms of what the administration could or should do,” Boehner said. “But I’m hopeful that the administration will hold them accountable for their actions.”
 
Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday that the United States “is committed to holding Iran accountable for its actions.” The Iranian government has called the allegations a fabrication.
 
In his news conference following a House GOP caucus meeting Wednesday, Boehner also held firm on his opposition to a China currency bill that passed the Senate on Tuesday. He said he had “grave concerns” that the legislation, which has bipartisan support, would start a trade war with China. The legislation would make it easier for the United States to crack down on currency manipulation.
