Obama gets warm welcome from Arizona Gov. Brewer

{mosads}The welcome was a far cry from the one Obama received the last time he touched down at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport. In a famously uncomfortable encounter in 2012, Brewer wagged her finger in the president’s face. The two were allegedly discussing Brewer’s new book, Scorpions for Breakfast, which Obama complained portrayed him as “patronizing.”

This time around, Brewer and Obama had what “looked like a friendly chat,” according to the White House pool report.

Brewer described the meeting as “positive” in a tweet and said the president had vowed to help the town of Yarnell, Ariz., which was devastated by a wildfire last month that took the lives of 19 firefighters.

The president introduced the governor to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.

Obama is in Arizona to speak about his plan for housing reform against the backdrop of Phoenix’s rebounding housing market. His proposals include the winding down of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
