Members say government should buy American-made American flags
“American flags should be American-made,” Brown said on June 13, just a day before Flag Day. “With Ohio companies proudly producing the American flag, taxpayer funds should not be used to purchase foreign-made flags.”
{mosads}Brown introduced his introduced the Senate version of the bill on Monday, along with Sen. John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.). Brown said the country’s oldest producer of American flags is Annin and Company in Coshocton, Ohio, and said it employs 500 people around the country.
The House version of the bill was introduced on June 13 by Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa), and that bill has bipartisan support. It’s co-sponsored by Reps. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.), David Cicilline (D-R.I.), Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), Donna Edwards (D-Md.), Peter King (R-N.Y.), Dan Lipinski (D-N.J.), Frank LoBiondo (R-N.J.), Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) and Mike Thompson (D-Calif.).
