DSCC raises $4.9M in May, boosted by Obama fundraisers

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee  (DSCC) brought in $4.9 million in May, the largest total they’ve ever raised during that month in a nonelection year.

The committee has totaled $22.2 million raised for the 2014 cycle, and has $10 million cash on hand for May.

{mosads}Those numbers were boosted by help from President Obama, who headlined a handful of DSCC fundraisers during the month.

The DSCC wouldn’t say how much it had spent in the last month — or how much debt it was carrying. As of the end of April, the organization had $8.6 million in the bank and $13.8 million in debt.

The organization has spent at least $700,000 in the past month to help Rep. Edward Markey’s (D-Mass.) Senate campaign.

“The thought of Mitch McConnell becoming majority leader is enough to motivate most Americans to support our efforts, and we continue to break fundraising records,” said DSCC Executive Director Guy Cecil, touting the fundraising numbers. “We still have a very long road to travel, but we are off to a strong start.”

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has yet to announce its May fundraising numbers. 

“Our goal has been to keep showing steady progress each month, raising the resources needed to send Chuck Schumer [D-N.Y.] and LINO (Leader in Name Only) Harry Reid [D-Nev.] back in the minority,” said Brad Dayspring, NRSC communications director. “Another month of ‘progress NRSC.'”

The DSCC has been outpacing the NRSC in fundraising in recent months, though the NRSC narrowly outraised the DSCC in April. At that point, the NRSC had $7 million in the bank and $9.5 million in debt.
