George P. Bush preparing to run for office in Texas

George P. Bush, son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) and grandson of former President George H.W. Bush (R), is mulling a run for land commissioner in Texas, his first foray into public office.

“We for sure are running, the question is the office,” Bush told The Associated Press.

He has already filed papers in Texas to launch a bid for political office, but he has not yet officially announced his candidacy. He said that he’s waiting for Gov. Rick Perry (R ) to decide on his own political future.

{mosads}Though Texas’s land commissioner plans to vacate his seat to run for lieutenant governor, leaving the seat open, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott may also leave his position to run for governor, offering another opportunity for elected office.

Bush indicated, however, that he doesn’t hope to cut past more seasoned Texas Republicans to seek a more powerful office.

“We’ve said that we want to be team players in the party, providing a younger, fresher vision for our values,” he said.

The younger Bush currently works as an attorney in Fort Worth, Texas, but has been considering entering politics for some time. He told the Associated Press that the long line of Bush politicians has helped him in his own political considerations.

“But who better to ask for advice on politics than two former presidents and a former governor?” he asked. “They’re not involved in the day-to-day operations. They’re not involved in formulating my ideology. It’s more of an informal advice.”
