GOP outside groups ramp up fiscal-cliff pressure with new ads

Two major Republican-affiliated outside groups are out with new ads criticizing President Obama’s deficit-reduction plan.

The ad from Cossroads GPS targets five red-state Democratic senators up for reelection with radio ads in their states asking their constituents to pressure them to support a bipartisan plan on the deficit.

{mosads}Crossroads is putting $240,000 toward radio ads that attack Obama for his “one-sided plan” and ask voters to call their senators to call for “bipartisan” and “balanced” solutions. Their targets: Sens. Mark Begich (D-Alaska), Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), Tim Johnson (D-S.D.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.).

A separate ad from American Action Network features former Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin accusing Obama of not having a plan to avoid the cliff.

“We are days away from the fiscal cliff and another recession. Republicans have put out a responsible, balanced plan with more revenues,” Holtz-Eakin says in the ad after a series of clips featuring dire warnings from cable news hosts. “Mr. President, where is your plan?”
