Poll: Obama pulling away from Romney in swing-state Virginia

{mosads}Obama leads with 52 percent support in Virginia over Romney, at 44, according to the survey.

The poll could be an outlier — Obama only leads Romney by 3 percentage points according to the Real Clear Politics average of polls in Virginia.

Obama supporters in the state are also more enthusiastic about their candidate than Romney backers.

92 percent of the president’s supporters said they were enthusiastic, with 61 percent saying they were “very” enthusiastic. 85 percent of Romney backers showed similar excitement, with 45 percent saying they were very enthusiastic about the GOP nominee.

Obama won Virginia 53 to 46 percent over Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in 2008. It was the first time since 1964 the state had gone to the Democratic presidential candidate.

The poll of 1,104 Americans, including 934 registered voters, was conducted between Sept. 12 and Sept. 16 and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
