Team Obama to mark 100 days until election with 4,200 grassroots events

The Obama campaign is marking 100 days until the presidential election by holding more than 4,200 grassroots events in states across the country, campaign aides say.

The events for the 100-day marker, which falls on Sunday, will be “branded around” first lady Michelle Obama’s new grassroots effort called, “It Takes One,” which asks supporters to do one thing — such as registering a voter or recruiting a new supporter — to help the president’s reelection campaign.

{mosads}”The 100-day milestone is significant,” said one campaign aide, calling it a “psychological milestone.”

“It’s obviously one of those moments people find noteworthy,” the aide said.

Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney will be in Israel on Sunday as part of a six-day foreign trip.

As part of Team Obama’s 100-day push, there will be voter registration drives and other events where supporters can learn more about the president’s record.

Campaign aides said their expansive field operation will also hold events to attract new supporters and expand the grassroots operation.

The campaign’s grassroots effort in 2008 has been credited with helping catapult Obama to the White House. But some critics have said turnout may be a problem for the president as he seeks reelection.

The campaign is looking to “push really hard on the field,” an aide said, to boost turnout on Election Day, hosting a string of events throughout the country.

In New Hampshire, the widow of a former Republican governor will be hosting a Women for Obama house party where Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) is expected to address supporters, campaign officials say.

In Nevada, the campaign’s field staffers are planning so-called “watch parties” for the Olympics opening ceremonies at Obama campaign offices around the state. In Ohio, the campaign is organizing “BBQs for Barack” across the state, where people can learn more about the president’s record and register to vote.
