Obama to attend Brazil-USA exhibition basketball games

Obama is scheduled to arrive at the Verizon Center, where both the men’s and the women’s games are taking place, at 7:10 p.m on Monday. The women’s Brazil-USA game starts at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game at 8 p.m, meaning the president will likely miss most of the women’s game.

{mosads}Obama, an avid basketball fan, has regularly attended various games throughout his time in office. Earlier this year, he and British Prime Minister David Cameron attended a first-round National Collegiate Athletic Association March Madness tournament game in Ohio.

In late June, Obama congratulated the Miami Heat for winning the 2012 NBA championship during a campaign event in Miami, Fla.

A number of star basketball players have attended Obama campaign fundraisers, including LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, both of the Heat.

In February, Obama’s reelection campaign raked in $2.1 million from a fundraiser at the home of Vince Carter, formerly of the Orlando Magic and currently of the Dallas Mavericks.

Obama will be interviewed by ESPN during the games, according to a White House aide.
