Author picks DC’s biggest rock star

While she says she’s not particularly political (in fact, most discussions on the subject make her gag), Jill Kargman exclaims bluntly that she was practically “suicidal” when Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) lost the election. 

That’s because the failed 2004 presidential candidate is almost like family; he’s the husband of Kargman’s godmother, Teresa Heinz Kerry. Kargman says her parents (dad is former Chanel CEO Arie Kopelman) are very close friends with the political power-couple.

{mosads}Fortunately for readers, The New York Times best-selling author didn’t do anything drastic.

Kargman celebrated the release of her latest tome, The Rock Star in Seat 3A, at a soiree last week hosted by Susanna Quinn, Audrey Schaefer, Gretchen Hitchner, Julie Bowen and Kelley Halpern at Bethesda Row boutique Ginger.

The chick-lit writer sums up the novel as a story about a woman who suddenly gets upgraded to first class on a flight: “[She’s] seated next to her same-sex fantasy since she was 16. And what it’s really about is roots versus wings, and why a fantasy should stay a fantasy.”

At the rocker chic-themed event, Kargman was quick to pick who she thinks is Washington’s biggest rock star, “Barack [Obama]. It’s sort of a power food chain, and he’s at the top and he has the best house.”

While so far all of the Sometimes I Feel Like a Nut scribe’s books have been set in New York, she’s not opposed to giving the nation’s capital a shot: “I love D.C. I love the power vibe, and the architecture, and all the secrets. And I love the National Gallery.”

Before long, Kargman had a potential plot in place: “Maybe an art heist at the National Gallery — the female Thomas Crown.”

She smiled before saying she was only kidding.

Or was she?

She added with a laugh, “You better beef up security, National Gallery. I have my cat suit!”
