Obama not fundraising off Supreme Court ruling

Other Democrats, including the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, have sent out fundraising appeals. The DCCC celebrated the ruling with an email from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who asked supporters to “stand with us and commit to ensuring that health care reform is here to stay.”

{mosads}The Obama campaign did post a fundraising request on its website this morning — before the court’s announcement — from campaign manager Jim Messina that closed with a suggestion that another fundraising request might be on the way.

“We don’t know what will happen this morning,” he wrote. “But no matter what, today is an important day to have Barack Obama’s back. If you’re with him, donate now — before this week’s critical fundraising deadline. More soon.”

Obama’s campaign refused to discuss how their fundraising was going or what their plans were to fundraise off the ruling.

“We do not give out specifics on fundraising except at filing time — sorry,” a campaign spokesperson emailed The Hill.

When Obama announced his support of gay marriage, word quickly leaked out that he’d raised $1 million in the following 90 minutes, although it’s unclear whether or not that news came from within the campaign.

The second quarter fundraising deadline is Saturday.
