M&M’s all the rage among House Republicans

A candy-coated conspiracy might be brewing in the Capitol: This week, it seemed members of Congress simply couldn’t get enough M&M’s.

At Tuesday’s markup of the 2013 transportation and housing spending bill, Rep. Steven LaTourette (R-Ohio) was attempting to limit spending by the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund and noted that his move was opposed by Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.).

{mosads}“No more M&M’s for you,” LaTourette declared. “Looks like you had too many already.” 

We hear both men were red-faced as the audience roared, “Oooh!”

LaTourette subsequently withdrew his motion.

In a separate M&M-related incident Tuesday, Rep. Allen West made sure that his candies melted only in his mouth, and not anyone else’s hands.

The Florida Republican walked out of Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) office with an apparent mouthful of the popular chocolates, telling reporters, “The M&M’s are good in there.”

When asked by the sugar-deprived press why he didn’t bring any out for them, West responded, to laughter, “I don’t believe in sharing the wealth.”
