Kingston targets Perdue on business failures, Common Core

Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) is going negative on businessman David Perdue (R) with just 10 days until Georgia’s GOP Senate primary, attacking Perdue’s business record and accusing him of supporting Common Core education standards.

The ad mocks the “crying babies” ads Perdue has been running to make fun of his rivals before ripping his record as a baby dressed as Perdue makes a mess with a cake.

“Meet Davey Perdue. He’s been distracting you with babies, but he’s the one who’s made a mess. Perdue chewed up businesses — 8,000 jobs were lost. He took a million-dollar bonus, and also millions more from Obama’s stimulus. And Perdue has no problem with Obama’s Common Core standards, which nationalize schools, eating away at local control,” the ad’s narrator says.

Perdue has outspent his rivals on TV ads and has had the lead in most public polling. He has been targeted for weeks by former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel (R), but this is the first time Kingston has attacked him in ads. The three are vying for two slots in the primary runoff, as polls show they’re ahead of Reps. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) in the race.

The business attacks refer to Perdue’s failed tenure as the head of Pillowtex in North Carolina, which folded shortly after he left as CEO, and to his sitting on the board of a company that sought and received stimulus money.
