The American Bar Association (ABA), the leading trade group of lawyers and law students, has awarded President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch its top rating.

The ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary evaluated Gorsuch’s record and determined by a unanimous vote that he is “well-qualified” for the position.

The committee rates each nominee as either “well-qualified,” “qualified” or “not qualified.”

“As you know, the Committee confines its evaluation to the qualities of integrity, professional competence, and judicial demeanor,” ABA Standing Committee Chairwoman Nancy Scott Degan wrote in a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and ranking member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) announcing the rating Thursday.

The White House on Friday touted the ABA rating for Gorsuch, whose Senate confirmation hearings will begin March 20.

“The president looks forward to seeing Judge Gorsuch receive a speedy and fair hearing and an up and down vote on the Senate floor,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said during the daily briefing.
