ISIS claims soda can bomb downed Russian plane

Islamic militants on Wednesday released a photo they claimed was a bomb that brought down a Russian passenger jet last month.

{mosads}The photo shows a Schweppes Gold soda can, labeled as an improvised explosive device, next to what appears to be a detonator.

The image was published in the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) English-language magazine Dabiq.

Russian officials said Tuesday that a bomb with up to 2.2 pounds of TNT brought down the jet Oct. 31, describing it as “definitely” a terrorist act.

U.S. and British officials have strongly suggested that it was a bomb that brought down the plane, killing all 224 people on board.

ISIS had previously claimed responsibility for downing the plane.
