American Airlines grounds flight due to computer glitch

American Airlines has grounded flights at three of its largest hubs due to a computer problem, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). 

The FAA tweeted that American Airlines requested the grounding at Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare and Miami international airports due to malfunctioning computers.  

“FAA Air Traffic Alert: @AmericanAir requested a ground stop for all of their traffic in and out of  DFW/ORD/MIA due to their computer issue,” the agency tweeted.

{mosads}American responded to multiple passengers who are complaining about flight delays on Twitter that it is “working to resolve technical issues and apologize for the inconvenience.” 

American is in the process of finalizing a 2013 merger with US Airways. The companies are scheduled to fully integrate into one airline by the end of the year. 

Other airlines that have merged in recent years like, United and Continental and Delta and Northwest, have experienced occasional computer problems as they sought to combine into one operating system.
