Trump will nominate FCC official as new Dem commissioner

President Trump will nominate Geoffrey Starks, a current Federal Communications Commission official (FCC), as a Democratic commissioner for the agency, the White House announced late Friday.

Starks, currently an assistant bureau chief with the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau, will be replacing Mignon Clyburn, a Democrat who recently stepped down after nearly a decade on the commission.

Starks arrived at the FCC in 2015 from the Justice Department, where he was a senior counsel to Deputy Attorney General Jim Cole.

“I congratulate Geoffrey Starks on his forthcoming nomination to serve as a Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission,” FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in a statement. “He has a distinguished record of public service, including in the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau, and I wish him all the best during the confirmation process.”

If confirmed, Starks will be one of two Democrats on the commission, with Republicans holding the other three seats.
