FCC chairman does his own version of ‘Mean Tweets’
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai is responding to the recent criticism of his net neutrality policies with his own humorous video.
In the segment produced by the Independent Journal Review, a conservative news website, Pai reads mean tweets directed at him, in the style of a recurring segment on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show, “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets.”
{mosads}“@AjitPaiFCC reminds me of Pinocchio, except instead of his nose growing when he lies, his head starts bobbling,” Pai said laughing as he read.
“I find that really offensive,” Pai joked in response. “I always tell the truth,” the chairman said bobbling his head.
“Ajit Pai: Go back to Africa — were you came from,” another read. Pai, who was born in Kansas, joked about the typo in that tweet.
“A. PAI IS THE UNCLE TOM OF THE INDIAN PEOPLE. HE IS AN EMBARRASSMENT FOR ALL NON WHITES,” another racially charged tweet said. “HIS SYCOPHANTIC BEHAVIOR KISSING WHITE ASS IS GROSS.”
Pai has faced public backlash fueled by net neutrality segments on John Oliver’s HBO show, though Oliver has called out those directing racist comments toward Pai and urged them to stop.
One tweeter attacked Pai for frequently using an enormous Reese’s peanut butter cup coffee mug, something Oliver roasted him for on “Last Week Tonight.”
“Lose the stupid mug,” the tweeter wrote.
Pai closed out the IJR video by taking a drink from an enormous Reese’s mug.
The chairman’s proposal to curb significant portions of net neutrality is set for a vote on Thursday. If the commissioners vote in favor of considering the proposal, it will then be open for public comment where it is expected to receive significant attention from the public.
