Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat tweeted a picture of a road sign pointing to the new U.S. Embassy on Monday and thanked President Trump for his decision to move the embassy from Tel Aviv.

Barkat’s tweet comes as the new embassy is set to open in May to mark Israel’s 70th anniversary.{mosads}

“The opening will coincide with Israel’s 70th anniversary. The Embassy will initially be located in the Arnona neighborhood, in a modern building that now houses consular operations of U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement in February.

Trump announced he would be moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem last December in a move that broke with the West and decades of U.S. policy that the status of Jerusalem should be resolved in peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

While Israel views Jerusalem as its capital, Palestinians view East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

The international community largely recognizes Tel Aviv as Israel’s capital.
