Cuba, US reopening embassies
Cuba and the U.S. officially open embassies on Monday morning as part of the restoration of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
{mosads}Cuba’s flag is set to fly outside of its embassy in Washington, D.C., for the first time since the U.S. broke off ties in 1961.
A U.S. Embassy in Havana is also scheduled to open on Monday.
Both countries maintained a diplomatic mission in each country, referred to as an “interest section.” Those interest sections will become embassies on Monday.
The moves are an important symbolic step of President Obama’s decision to normalize relations with the communist country.
