Trump says drug companies to ‘voluntarily’ slash prescription costs
President Trump predicted on Tuesday that drug companies would voluntarily slash prescription prices in the coming weeks.
“You’re going to have some big news,” Trump said at a signing ceremony for a bill intended to help terminally ill people get access to experimental treatments.
{mosads}”I think we’re going to have some of the big drug companies, in two weeks, they’re going to announce because of what we did, they’re going to announce voluntary massive drops in prices.”
The administration announced a plan earlier this month to lower drug costs, mostly through regulatory action, but drug companies have viewed the proposal favorably.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has not yet issued any new regulations related to drug pricing.
But HHS Secretary Alex Azar has said “bold action is on the way” on drug prices and “the entire system is under review.
