Clinton: ObamaCare pushing some people into part-time jobs

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Wednesday said President Obama’s healthcare is pushing some people into part-time positions.

“Well that’s why they’re going to part-time, that and also the Affordable Care Act,” Clinton said in Iowa while fielding a question about discrimination against workers under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), according to the Washington Free Beacon.

{mosads}“You know, we’ve got to change that, because we have built in some unfortunate incentives that discourage full-time employment,” she added.

Clinton did not say how she would remedy the issue, but said she wants to “look at all the employment rules.”

“I really worry about it because there is a trend to try and move more and more people into part-time work,” Clinton said. “And sometimes you want to work part-time, it fits into your family, it fits into your life obligations, but sometimes you want to work full-time but you can’t get a full-time job. So I want to look at all the employment rules.”

ObamaCare’s employer mandate requires businesses with 50 or more full-time or equivalent employees to offer workers health insurance or face penalties that can exceed $2,000 per employee.

Industry groups have pushed to change those rules, with business leaders warning they will have no choice but to move toward more part-time positions in order to avoid the cost of providing healthcare benefits.

Clinton has repeatedly pledged to defend ObamaCare during her presidential run, something Republicans see as a vulnerability.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) said Clinton’s “fingerprints are all over” the healthcare law.

“We’ve been saying it for years, but earlier today in Iowa Hillary Clinton admitted ObamaCare is hurting workers by creating ‘unfortunate incentives’ that are moving them from full-time to part-time employment,” the RNC said in a statement on Wednesday.
