White House to fill National Economic Council post with congressional staffer

The White House is reportedly planning to fill a position on its National Economic Council with a Republican congressional trade staffer.

Everett Eissenstat will serve as the council’s deputy director, administration and private-sector sources with knowledge of the staff move told Politico.

Eissenstat now serves as the chief Republican trade counsel for the Senate Finance Committee.

{mosads}The National Economic Council role was previously held by Kenneth Juster, who is now reportedly being considered as President Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to India, Politico reported.

“If they’re interested in Everett, that shows they’re approaching things pretty intelligently, because he’s very, very good,” Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) told the news outlet.
