McConnell on Trump tax returns: ‘Tradition’ is to release them

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday suggested that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump should release his tax returns.

“Most candidates for president have, and that’s been the tradition,” McConnell told reporters. “He’ll have to make that decision himself, but that’s certainly been the pattern for quite some time.”

{mosads}Trump has refused to release his tax returns so far, as nearly all major presidential candidates do.

The business mogul claims he’s been audited by the Internal Revenue Service for 12 years and that his tax rate is “none of your business.”

Democrats and Republicans have criticized Trump’s refusal, insisting something unsavory must be buried in the returns.

Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican nominee, claimed there’s a “bombshell” in Trump’s returns, and Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s campaign has questioned what it could be.
