Elizabeth Warren for Treasury secretary?
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) says she’s not running for president — but she’s keeping her options open on a potential nomination to be Treasury Department secretary in a Hillary Clinton administration.
“Well, that’s a fun thought,” Warren told PEOPLE magazine in a story published Wednesday.
{mosads}Warren has insisted she’s not running for president in 2016, but that hasn’t stopped progressives from urging her to run.
In recent interviews, she’s said that she’s “not running” for president. However, in this interview, she answered: “I don’t think so,” a slight variation that is sure to leave hope for liberals weary of another Clinton campaign.
“If there’s any lesson I’ve learned in the last five years, it’s don’t be so sure about what lies ahead,” Warren told PEOPLE. “There are amazing doors that could open.”
Clinton, the former secretary of State, maintains a dominant lead in 2016 polls. A Bloomberg/Des Moines poll among likely Democratic caucus-goers in Iowa put Clinton with 53 percent and Warren with just 10 percent.
