Biden: Paris climate deal exit ‘imperils’ national security

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday said President Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris climate deal imperils U.S. national security.

“We’re already feeling impacts of climate change. Exiting #ParisAgreement imperils US security and our ability to own the clean energy future,” Biden wrote on Twitter.

His reaction came moments after Trump announced in a televised news conference that he would pull the United States out of the historic agreement, which was spearheaded by former President Barack Obama and approved by 195 nations in Paris in December 2015.

{mosads}The decision marked a stinging rebuke of the Obama administration’s environmental agenda.

“In order to fulfill my solemn duty to protect America and its citizens, the United States will withdraw from the Paris climate accord,” Trump said during remarks from the White House Rose Garden.

“The bottom line is that the Paris accord is very unfair at the highest level to the United States,” he added.

Trump also said that he would begin negotiations for a new or revised deal that would be “fairer” to U.S. businesses, workers and taxpayers.
