Trump speaks with Al Gore on Paris climate pact

President Trump spoke Tuesday with former vice president and climate activist Al Gore regarding the Paris climate change agreement.

Gore pressed Trump to abandon his campaign promise and keep the United States in the non-binding international accord to fight climate change through individual nations’ greenhouse gas limits, Axios reported Wednesday.

“Mr. Gore made the case for why the U.S. should stay in the agreement and meet our commitments,” a source familiar with the call told Axios.

The source did not know who initiated the call, Axios said, but the two have discussed the issue before.

{mosads}It’s at least the second time that Gore, one of the world’s most well-known climate activists and creator of the 2006 documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” has talked with Trump.

The unsuccessful 2000 presidential candidate met with Trump in December shortly before the then-president-elect announced his choice of Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

Gore has been highly critical of Trump’s environmental policies, calling a major March executive order to undo nearly all of former President Barack Obama’s climate moves a “shame.”

The latest conversation came as the Trump administration is trying to figure out whether to exit the pact or stay in it. Various administration officials are publicly pushing for Trump to choose one way or another and have had numerous meetings on the matter.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters Tuesday that Trump would not make a decision on Paris until after the Group of Seven summit later this month in Italy.
