Club for Growth calling on Trump to exit Paris climate deal

The conservative Club for Growth group is urging President Trump to withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement.

In remarks prepared for the American Coatings Association’s Spring Leadership Council, Club for Growth President David McIntosh will say the agreement “threatens to harm American economic growth.”

“President Trump was right during his campaign when he pledged ‘to cancel the Paris Climate Agreement and stop all payments of U.S. tax dollars to U.N. global warming programs,'” McIntosh plans to say.

“The Paris Agreement undermines the Trump agenda of restoring economic growth and creating more American jobs.”

{mosads}Top Trump administration officials are planning to meet soon at the White House to discuss whether to stay in the Paris climate change agreement.

The discussion had been scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed due to scheduling conflicts. It has yet to be rescheduled.

Trump has promised to “cancel” the 2015 pact signed by former President Obama, in which nearly 200 countries agreed on a nonbinding basis to reduce or limit their greenhouse gas emissions.
Trump continues to bash the agreement as a bad deal for the United States, which agreed to cut its emissions 26 percent to 28 percent by 2025.

At a rally last month, Trump called it a “one-sided deal” in which the U.S. “pays billions of dollars while China, Russia and India have contributed and will contribute nothing.”
