Climate change activist and former vice president Al Gore had what he described as a “very productive” meeting with President-elect Donald Trump Monday.

Aides for Trump’s transition team said earlier Monday that the president-elect did not plan to meet with Gore, who went to Trump Tower in New York City to meet with Trump’s daughter Ivanka about climate change.

Donald Trump is an avowed climate change skeptic and has repeatedly said that global warming is a hoax. He tweeted once that the Chinese created the hoax to make United States manufacturing non-competitive.

“I had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect,” Gore told reporters. It was a sincere search for areas of common ground.”

Gore has made climate his top priority since losing the 2000 presidential election.

He created and starred in the 2006 documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” which framed the climate issue as a coming catastrophe, and has pushed for dramatic cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. He also campaigned with Trump’s Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, with climate as his focus.

Gore wrapped up his brief statement to the press Monday saying that he found the meeting to be an “extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued, and I’m just going to leave it at that.”

Ivanka Trump reportedly wants to make fighting climate change a priority in her time as first daughter.

Donald Trump has pledged to repeal President Obama’s entire aggressive climate change agenda, including the Clean Power Plan, which limits carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.

He’s also promised to “cancel” the Paris climate agreement within his first 100 days in office.
