Over 190 nations meet in Lima to talk climate
Delegates from over 190 countries will meet in Lima, Peru, on Monday to craft a draft climate change accord ahead of the final meeting in Paris next year.
Lima is the final main stop before global leaders head to Paris at the end of next year to finalize a global climate treaty aimed at slashing greenhouse gas emissions, The Associated Press reports.
{mosads}In the last two months talks have gained more traction and attention with commitments from the world’s largest carbon emitters, China, and the U.S. to cut back.
“This sends an important signal for the rest of the world to come forward as early as possible with their own contributions,” EU negotiator Elina Bardram said in Lima, according to AP. “We have 12 months and the clock is ticking.”
