September sets new temperature record

Last month was the hottest September on record on the earth’s surfaces, according to NASA.

September’s data, released Sunday, follows a summer of new record high temperatures for most months.

{mosads}NASA’s data showed that Earth’s average temperature was 58.586 degrees Fahrenheit, or 1.386 degrees above the average for 1951 to 1980, which NASA uses as a benchmark.

It was the hottest September since NASA’s data began in 1880, the agency said. It edged out the previous September record from 2005, which was 58.514 degrees Fahrenheit.

NASA’s data are based on meteorological stations around the world.

May, June and August set overall surface temperature records this year, and July set a record for ocean surfaces.
