Reid promises vote on green tax credits

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday said he will bring legislation to the Senate floor by the end of the year to extend tax credits for renewable energy sources.

Speaking at the National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas, Reid said efforts by Republicans to do away with the credits were a “sham” and “wrong.”

{mosads}”Efforts to renew these incentives are being blocked by Republicans in Congress,” Reid said on Thursday. “Letting these critical incentives expire is not an option. I’ll bring them to the floor before the end of this year for a vote.”

Reid slammed Senate Republicans for filibustering legislation that would have extended the credits when tax legislation came to the floor in May.

“Tax incentives level the playing field for energy,” Reid said. “They help make renewables more affordable for consumers and more attractive to investors.”

The Senate returns for two weeks on Sept. 9, and then again after Election Day, leaving roughly seven weeks of possible legislative time before the end of the year.
