Climate activists to ‘sound alarm’ on Hill

Senate and House lawmakers are planning to hold a climate action rally on Wednesday.

Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), who head the Senate Climate Action Task Force, are spearheading the Wednesday rally, which will include leading members of the House and Senate, an advisory states.

{mosads}“The devastating effects of climate change are all around us right now, and it is time for Congress to wake up. We must sound the alarm and act now to reduce carbon pollution for the sake of our health, our economy and the well-being of our children and grandchildren,” Boxer and Whitehouse said in a statement on Monday.

Speakers will include members of the Senate Climate Action Task Force, the Bicameral Climate Change Task Force, the House Safe Climate Caucus, the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, and House and Senate leadership.

Despite the growing push by advocates of climate policy in Congress, many argue the divide between believers and skeptics of man-made climate change has never been greater in the nation’s capital.

Still, lawmakers like Whitehouse are optimistic that with a reinvigorated push in Congress and from the Obama administration, lasting policies may begin to take hold.
