A search for three missing U.S. Marines has been called off, following an aircraft crash off the east coast of Australia.

The three U.S. Marines were missing after their MV-22 Osprey helicopter went down into the water. Twenty-three other crew members were rescued.{mosads}

According to White House officials, Trump was briefed on the crash earlier Saturday.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The Osprey reportedly launched from the USS Bonhomme Richard, an amphibious assault vessel, during a routine operation before it crashed into the sea.

Seaborne vessels and aircraft took part in the search and rescue operation.
