Americans increasingly believe the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is going poorly and that President Obama doesn’t have a clear plan to deal with the terror group.
That’s according to a CNN/ORC poll released Wednesday, which also found that Americans are divided on whether Russia’s intervention in Syria is a problem for the United States.
Thirty-one percent of poll respondents said the military action against ISIS is going well, down from 48 percent a year ago, when the military campaign against ISIS was a few months old.
{mosads}And 71 percent of respondents said they believe Obama doesn’t have a clear plan for dealing with ISIS, up from 67 percent a year ago.
The percentage opposed to sending ground troops to Iraq or Syria has also dropped, from 60 percent a year ago to 51 percent now.
Also, 76 percent are very worried or somewhat worried the fight against the ISIS will grow into a larger war, up from 65 percent last year.
More people think ISIS is a serious threat than think that of Iran, North Korea, China or Russia, with 89 percent saying ISIS is a very serious or moderately serious threat.
But as to whether Russia’s airstrikes in Syria pose a problem for the United States, respondents were evenly split, with half saying it’s a crisis or major problem and the other half saying it’s a minor problem or no problem at all.
CNN/ORC polled 1,028 adults by phone from Oct. 14-17. The margin of error is 3 percent.
