Clinton: ‘No evidence’ email was breached

Hillary Clinton is doubling down on the assertion that her private email server was secure during her time as secretary of State.

“There is no evidence it was ever breached,” the Democratic presidential hopeful said in an interview with The Des Moines Register’s editorial board on Wednesday.

{mosads}One of the Register’s opinion writers pressed Clinton on the point, saying, “That doesn’t mean it wasn’t” breached.

“Well, usually though, people who are sophisticated can find trails and tracks,” Clinton responded. “And we know the White House email was breached and we know that a lot of places that are supposed to be highly secured, we know that all the records were stolen out of the Office of Personnel Management, probably by the Chinese. So we can track the attacks.”

Clinton’s campaign has been dogged by persistent questions about a private email account she hosted on a home server during her tenure in the Obama administration.

Federal investigators are in the midst of a months-long probe into whether any classified information passed through Clinton’s private server at any point.

The GOP presidential field has also bashed the Democratic front-runner over the issue, alleging Clinton’s setup exposed national security secrets to foreign hackers.

The attention has hurt Clinton’s polling numbers. The former first lady and New York senator has gradually ceded ground to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who has surged with his focus on income inequality.
