Chafee: Negative coverage of Trump ‘tiresome’

Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee says the media’s “full onslaught” of coverage of President Trump is “tiresome.”

Coverage “has been on a full onslaught against Trump, and I think it’s kind of tiresome,” Chafee, who briefly ran for president in 2016, told Providence radio station WPRO-AM on Tuesday.

{mosads}”He won. I didn’t vote for him, but he won, and let’s let him get his feet under him and try and build an administration, and move on.”

Chafee served as a Republican in the U.S. Senate, before being elected Rhode Island governor as an independent. While governor, he became a Democrat in 2013.

Chafee said he voted for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in his state’s Democratic presidential primary and for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the general election.

Trump last week called various major media outlets, including The New York Times, ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN, “the enemy of the people” in a tweet.

Chafee also praised Trump for his approach with Russia since taking office last month.

“When you’re as strong as we are … you can take some risks, and we should be taking them with our perceived adversaries,” he said.

Chafee also didn’t rule out another presidential run in 2020, saying, “You know, I’ve done crazy things before.”
