Corker: Presidential visits to Hill ‘not really about substance’

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said early Tuesday that presidential visits to Capitol Hill are not “really about substance” during an interview hours before President Trump is slated to participate in a Republican policy lunch.

“But I think it’s fine for him to come over. I do look at these things as more of a, you know, photo op,” Corker told NBC’s “Today.”

“They’re not really about substance but you know, more power to him.”

Corker, who personally feuded with Trump several weeks ago, in the Tuesday interview said legislative efforts often inspire photo opportunities.

“Typically, when something’s getting ready to be launched like this, you know, there’s kind of a photo op, if you will,” he said, referencing the GOP’s efforts on tax reform.

Trump’s meeting on Tuesday with Senate Republicans on the Hill will be his first since becoming president.
