Police have apprehended a woman who attempted to scale the Statue of Liberty following a more than three-hour standoff.

The woman, still unidentified, had attempted to scale the 150-foot-tall statue after climbing Lady Liberty’s pedestal earlier Wednesday.

According to CNN, the woman had told police, “I’m not coming down until those children are released.”

Police, tethered to the statue, harnessed the woman to safely bring her down from the statue.

Police evacuated visitors from the statue and harbor hours after an individual tried to scale the statue, a move they said was made as a precaution. They are expected to bring the woman to a police station in the Staten Island precinct.

The woman was observed scaling the side of the statue late Wednesday afternoon.

The woman reportedly climbed the statue after attending a protest near the statue earlier on Wednesday, CNN reported. Protesters unrolled a banner reading “Abolish I.C.E.” at the demonstration, condemning President Trump’s immigration policies, according to NBC New York.

Eight individuals participating in the protest were arrested and officials are expected to charge them with unlawful protest.
