Las Vegas suspect identified as Nevada resident Stephen Paddock

The suspected gunman in the deadly Las Vegas mass shooting has been identified as Nevada resident Stephen Paddock, police said Monday.

Paddock, 64, fired on an outdoor music festival from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay, Sheriff Joe Lombardo told reporters.

Paddock, of Mesquite, Nev., was killed in his hotel room after officers breached its door, authorities said. They added that smoke from the gunfire set off an alarm in the room. 

Authorities in Mesquite told CBS News that they had had no contact with Paddock.

At least 58 people were killed and 500 others injured in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Police believe the shooting was a “lone wolf” attack. 

Authorities believe they have located Marilou Danley, Paddock’s roommate. She is no longer considered a “person of interest,” The Associated Press reported, and is not believed to have been involved in the attack.

The shooting happened during a three-day country music festival that reportedly drew thousands of people.

President Trump on Monday tweeted his sympathies to those affected by the shooting.

“My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!” Trump tweeted.
