CNN’s Brooke Baldwin blasts radio host after derailed segment

CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin penned an op-ed Friday night blasting radio host Clay Travis for saying he believed in “the First Amendment and boobs” during an on-air CNN segment earlier in the day.

“[W]hen I first heard ‘boobs’ from a grown man on national television (in 2017!!!) my initial thought bubble was: ‘Did I hear that correctly?? There’s no WAY he just came on my show and said what I think he said. … DID HE?’” Baldwin wrote in the piece published by CNN.

Baldwin detailed how she first thought Travis said “booze,” but when she asked him to clarify and he confirmed “boobs,” she decided to have the CNN control room cut off his mic.

“It is 2017, and this grown man is on my show talking with me — a female host — about boobs. Is this seriously happening?” Baldwin wrote. “I invite a variety people on my show with wide-ranging opinions — sometimes even my jaw hits the floor, too — but I let them speak.”

“But this … was different.”

The CNN host ripped Travis for his “unacceptable” remark and said despite his tweets, he wouldn’t be invited back to her show. Baldwin then offered Travis a bit of advice.

“He works at Fox Sports Radio. Maybe he should learn from folks over at Fox News — being demeaning to women does have consequences,” she wrote.

Fox Sports has denied Travis works for the company.

“In response to Clay Travis’ appearance on CNN today, his comments were inappropriate. Clay Travis has not worked at FOX Sports for six months and is a syndicated talent of Premiere Networks,” Fox Sports Communications said in a statement on Friday.

Travis, a frequent critic of ESPN, appeared on CNN earlier Friday to discuss the controversy surrounding ESPN anchor Jemele Hill calling President Trump a “white supremacist.”

Baldwin ripped Travis on Twitter following the segment, saying “that is never okay,” while Travis shared several tweets after his appearance brushing off the controversy.
