Freedom Caucus leader: Omnibus ‘may be the worst bill I have seen’

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) lambasted the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill on Thursday, saying that it “may be the worst” he has seen in his time in Congress.

Jordan, vice chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, took aim at the legislation’s funding for so-called sanctuary cities and warned that it would run up the nation’s deficit by $1 trillion.

“I don’t think the American people said, ‘Oh, let’s put Republicans in control of Congress to do a bill like this,'” Jordan said on “Fox & Friends.”

{mosads}”This may be the worst bill I have seen in my time in Congress, the worst bill our leadership has ever allowed to come to the floor.”

Jordan’s comments came hours before the House was set to vote on the bipartisan spending package, the text of which was released Wednesday evening.

Lawmakers face a Friday deadline to fund the government and avoid a government shutdown.

Jordan also blasted the bill’s funding for Planned Parenthood and its failure to fund President Trump’s proposed wall along the U.S. southern border. The omnibus provides more than $1 billion for border security and new surveillance technology, but prevents the money from being used for new construction of Trump’s wall.

“The one thing we don’t fund is the one issue we all campaigned on — a border security wall — and that is not in the legislation,” he said. “So it can’t get any worse than this bill.”
