Former Rep. David Jolly (R-Fla.) is urging President Trump to stop complaining and focus instead on serving the country.
“He needs to stop complaining and do your job. Stop taking on fake news, stop taking on the judiciary, stop taking on senators, John McCain. Do your job,” Jolly said on CNN’s “New Day.”
“You asked for this job. Stop complaining. Do your job, because Republicans should be proud to have a Republican president.”
Over the weekend, the president claimed that the media wouldn’t report on pro-Trump crowds outside his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, while his administration repeated Trump’s claim, presented without evidence, that massive voter fraud cost him the popular vote.
Jolly, who lost his reelection bid in November to former Gov. Charlie Crist (D), shared a story about when he was a new member of Congress, noting that he was one of the first Republicans to “embrace marriage equality.”
{mosads}”And I was beaten up pretty bad for it,” he said.
“And there was a day on the House floor where a senior member came up to me and said, ‘Just remember kid, you asked for this job,'” he continued, before saying Trump, too, asked for the job.
Jolly also noted the country needs a Congress that will speak up against a president “who has shown in the past 30 days some very risky behavior.”
He put Republicans in Congress into two groups.
“One is scared their political career will be destroyed by a tweet from President Trump. The other is stay silent and pass an agenda,” he said.
“President Trump has to do more as well, though. President Trump needs to stop creating such chaos for members of Congress and fellow Republicans.”
