Pelosi voices confidence in Wasserman Schultz

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday expressed confidence in the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, who is facing calls from some progressive groups to resign.

“Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a very valued member of the House of Representatives,” Pelosi said, dismissing new concerns about the Florida lawmaker.

{mosads}“She has all the stamina and enthusiasm for the job that she has, and I believe she has the confidence of the president and will of the nominee of our party, and that’s where our decisions are made,” said Pelosi, who has held numerous fundraisers with the DNC chairwoman.

Liberal grassroots groups CREDO and Roots Action have targeted Wasserman Schultz for saying that women in their 20s and 30s have become complacent about abortion rights.  

Hours after her remarks were published in a New York Times Magazine interview, the party chairwoman attempted to walk back her comments.

“We need women of every generation — mine included — to stand up and speak out, and that is the main message I sought to convey in that interview,” her office wrote in a nearly 300-word statement.

Wasserman Schultz has irked some Democrats this campaign cycle with the DNC’s response to Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign’s alleged breach into the headquarters’ data. After Sanders was cut off from the database, he filed a lawsuit against the campaign committee.

Roots Action has supported Sanders’ campaign as he battles front-runner Hillary Clinton, while CREDO has not made an endorsement.

When asked about the Sanders lawsuit on Thursday, Pelosi said she did not know of it.

“I’m not aware of a lawsuit, I’m just not paying that much attention to that aspect,” she said.
