Giuliani to Mueller: ‘Write the damn report’

President Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani signaled Wednesday that his team is losing patience with special counsel Robert Mueller, urging the former FBI director to finish his Russia investigation ahead of the November midterm elections.

Giuliani tweeted that the Department of Justice (DOJ) “should require Mueller to submit his report before September 7.”

The DOJ said in a report published in June that the 60-day rule “is not written or described in any Department policy or regulation” but added that DOJ and FBI officials acknowledge “the existence of a general practice that informs Department decisions.”

Giuliani also told Bloomberg that Mueller should “write the damn report so we can see it and rebut it,” the website reported Wednesday.

Giuliani said in May that Mueller intended to end his probe into possible obstruction of justice on the part of Trump by Sept. 1, though the special counsel never confirmed that time frame. Giuliani also said at the time that Mueller could finish the obstruction probe if Trump sat for an interview with investigators, something the president hasn’t done.

Since then, Giuliani has urged Mueller to avoid the mistakes of former FBI Director James Comey, who was sharply criticized for announcing, just days before the 2016 election, that the FBI was renewing its investigation into then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton‘s use of a private email server while secretary of State. .

“I thought [Mueller] meant, well that’ll keep us clear of the election. And they did say something like they didn’t want to repeat some of the mistakes that Comey made,” Giuliani said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
