President Trump early Tuesday said meetings are underway concerning a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, adding that there was “solid response” to his letter last week withdrawing from the meeting.

“We have put a great team together for our talks with North Korea. Meetings are currently taking place concerning Summit, and more. Kim Young Chol, the Vice Chairman of North Korea, heading now to New York,” he tweeted.

“Solid response to my letter, thank you!”

{mosads}The vice chairman of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party’s Central Committee, Kim Yong Chol, will fly to the United States on Wednesday, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing South Korea’s Yonhap news agency. The news service added that Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported that Kim Chang Son, who is Kim’s de facto chief of staff, flew to Singapore late Monday.

The White House also said that a “pre-advance” team would meet North Koreans in Singapore, according to the Reuters.

Trump announced last week that he was withdrawing from the summit, planned for June 12 in Singapore, but left open the door to future talks with Kim.

Since then, the president has said the summit could still happen and that it could take place on the original date.
