Kellyanne Conway’s husband is deleting some tweets that appear critical of Trump

George Conway, husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, has deleted some of his tweets after they attracted media attention for appearing critical of President Trump.

Conway told CNN there was “no reason” for the deletions, saying, “I have nothing to add.”

Conway had retweeted several posts that appeared critical or mocking of Trump, including one that insinuated that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s payment to Stormy Daniels, an adult film star who alleges a past affair with Trump, constituted an illegally unreported campaign donation.

Another now-deleted retweet of a former Obama administration associate counsel commented on reports that Trump required White House staff to sign nondisclosure agreements, CNN reported.

“Occasionally an official would ask us in the Obama White House Counsel’s Office if they could make their staff sign NDAs. We’d tell them no,” the former official’s tweet reads. “WH staff work for the public.”

Conway’s deleted messages come amid speculation that his wife is being considered to replace Hope Hicks as White House communications director. Hicks, who announced her resignation last month, had her last day in the White House on Wednesday.

He also deleted a tweet directed to a CNN reporter who said that Trump often “says one thing, then does the opposite” that commented “people are banging on the doors to be [Trump’s] communications director.”

Conway sent some critical tweets last year during the administration’s early fight over Trump’s travel ban, which he defended at the time by explaining that while he supports Trump’s agenda he believes Trump’s tweets often “undermine” his policies.

“Just to be clear, and in response to inquiries, I still VERY, VERY STRONGLY support POTUS, his Admin, policies, the executive order … and of course, my wonderful wife,” Conway wrote last year.
